Starting next Monday, Extinction Rebellion has called for two weeks of direct action on the climate emergency.
In the UK, the focus is on protesting at 12 government sites in London around Westminster. Extinction Rebellion has asked for legal observers during this period and a network called Independent Legal Observers (ILO) will coordinate volunteers throughout this action who have previously been trained by Green and Black Cross or by LDMG to document arrests and oppressive policing and to share basic information with protesters about their legal rights.
Netpol is happy to share the call-out below and supports ILO’s efforts to deploy enough trained legal observers for an action of this scale and duration.
CALL FOR LEGAL OBSERVERS
Monday 7th October until Saturday 19th October 2019
This is a call-out for Legal Observers |(LOs) willing to volunteer during two weeks of action called by Extinction Rebellion.
The groups being asked to share this call out via their networks include; Independent Legal Observers (ILO), Independent Legal Observer Network (ILON), Network for Police Monitoring (Netpol), Green & Black Cross Cornwall (GBC Cornwall), Green & Black Cross Manchester (GBC Manchester), Extinction Rebellion (XR), and The Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers.
We will be circulating a secure encrypted online form in order to discover when and where you may be willing to LO, how we can communicate with you, if you have your own bib or will need to be supplied with one, and in an effort to buddy new LOs with experienced LOs.
Please reply to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are up for legal observing at this action. Please respond whether you are willing to do one shift or many shifts.
