The Netpol Lawyers Group (NLG) acts as a forum for solicitors and barristers to meet and exchange their knowledge and experience of public order law and to support the objectives of the Network for Police Monitoring (Netpol) in challenging protest and community policing that is excessive, discriminatory or threatens civil rights. Members either defend clients in criminal proceedings or represent claimants in civil proceedings. They do not prosecute defendants, or represent police forces.
In order to maintain the confidence of the activists that Netpol works with and to ensure discussions are kept confidential, the group is not open to new members other than by invitation.
Members are happy, where possible, to conduct legal briefings, attend public meetings and assist activist groups who share Netpol’s objectives. They are also available for comment to the media.
